we are here to help
Building a mechanical watch is a challenging task, but with our complete sets you will receive the prepared components for assembly, a full tool kit and detailed step by step instructions. All you need is a steady set of hands and a bit of patience, to complete this kit!
The Stirling MK III is our third iteration of a classic Pilot watch, featuring a mechanical, hand-wound ST-3600 movement. The Stirling has a large 44mm case in stainless steel (raw steel or black coated) together with a clear, easy to read Pilot dial in a colourful sunray brushed finish with lume printed numerals and hour markers. The coated hour and minute hands are matched to your case choice and lume filled, while the seconds hand operates in a sub-dial at 9oclock and is filled with red to increase visibility. The Stirling is available on an Italian leather or sailcloth strap (made of extra durable Nylon fibres).
Please note that a mechanical watch needs to be wound up via the crown every 48-50 hours to keep ticking.
Containing all parts, tools and instructions our kits are an ideal start into the world of watchmaking. Learn more about the way a watch works, the history of watchmaking and how to assemble your own automatic watch at home.
All our kits contain a detailed instructions book as well as access to our step-by-step video guides available on our homepage to assist you throughout the assembly.
Our kits are available as Full watchmaking kits or as No tools variants:
- Full watchmaking starter kit includes watch components (case, dial, hands, movement, and strap plus micro screwdriver for the movement), a full tool kit (watch hand levers and press, movement cushion, friction ball, cleanroom products, dust blower, Rodico, precision tweezers, table mat, screwdriver (pilot watches only), watchmaker’s loupe and headwire) and detailed instructions (printed booklet in each kit and access to our step-by-step video guides via our homepage)
- No tools kits include only the watch components (incl. micro screwdriver) and the instructions (we recommended to start with a full watchmaking starter kit to ensure you have all the right tools for your first assembly)
Safety notice: Please note that these kits are not toys and are unsuitable for children of any age. They contain small parts which can be swallowed as well as sharp tools. Please always handle the tools (especially tweezers) with utmost care and caution. Keep the ends away from your eyes, skin or any other person or animal.

A modern Pilot watch
The Stirling MK III
The Pilot watch has a long history, dating back to pilots relying on precise timekeeping and measurements for navigation and coordination. Accordingly, a quick glance on the wrist needed to be enough to register the time. To achieve this, Pilot cases are traditionally large with a wide-open dial and clear printed numerals. In addition, the crown was often larger than for other models, so Pilots could use their gloved hands to wind up the movement (a feature still helpful today for winding). The Stirling case has our largest see-through case back to showcase the high finish of the movement and its parts in action.
